Parents who attend church weekly tend to have teens that worship weekly, while 78% of parents who never attend worship services have teens who never attend, according to christiannewswire.com. The survey found almost 80% of America’s 30.2 million 12-18 year olds think the Bible is important and 87% of parents agree. Yet, only 11% of teens read the Bible daily.
Pastors Weekly Briefing 3/7/08Wesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553983776418079391.post-50325528873981848822008-04-08T08:35:00.003-05:002008-04-08T11:00:01.332-05:00BalanceAs we are going through the series, "Desperate Households", I have received feedback, that one of the biggest challenges in life is maintaining proper balance. I would agree that it sure can be difficult. I came across this in some of my reading this week, and thought it brought an interesting perspective:

"Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them -- work, family, health, friends and spirit and you are keeping them all in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls ---family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life" Brian Dyson, former vice president of Cocoa-Cola, who delivered the commencement address at Georgia Tech in 1996.

Keep moving towards Jesus!Wesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553983776418079391.post-32841659609989620862008-03-31T18:20:00.001-05:002008-03-31T18:22:50.995-05:00Study: Spirituality a big part of kids' happiness
By Ron Csillag, Religion News Service

Spirituality is a major contributor to a child's overall happiness — even more so than for adults — according to a new study from the University of British Columbia.

The study tested 315 children aged 9 to 12, measuring spirituality and other factors such as temperament and social relations that can affect an individual's sense of happiness.

"Our goal was to see whether there's a relation between spirituality and happiness," said Mark Holder, associate professor of psychology and the study's co-author. "We knew going in that there was such a relation in adults, so we took multiple measures of spirituality and happiness in children."

Past studies have shown that in adults, spiritual feelings and higher levels of religious behavior typically account for about 5% of a person's overall happiness, said a UBC statement.

The results of the UBC study came as a surprise: 6.5 to 16.5% of children's happiness can be accounted for by spirituality.

"From our perspective, it's a whopping big effect," said Holder. "I expected it to be much less — I thought their spirituality would be too immature to account for their well-being."

Children in the study were asked to rate statements such as "I feel a higher power's presence," and answer questions including, "how often do you pray or meditate privately outside of church or other places of worship?"

Parents were also asked to describe each child's apparent happiness and spirituality, and teachers rated each child's happiness level.

The study's authors plan to conduct the same research in India to see whether children score similar results in a country not dominated by Christianity.
Wesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553983776418079391.post-24208433831497622882008-03-28T09:55:00.001-05:002008-03-28T09:57:26.545-05:00From, Too Busy Not To Pray, Bill Hybels

"From birth we have been learning the rules of self-reliance as we strain and struggle to achieve self-sufficiency.
Prayer flies in the face of those deep-seated values. The people from West Berlin thought they'd pick up all the garbage, put it on a truck, and dump it back on the east side. Then they decided that wasn't the way to handle it. Instead, they filled a dump truck with canned goods and other nonperishable food items went over to the east side and stacked them neatly, and put a sign beside it. The sign read, "Each gives what each has to give."

It is true, you can only give "fruit" to others when you are living a fruitful live inwardly....Wesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553983776418079391.post-55721440349584002102008-02-28T17:16:00.000-06:002008-02-28T17:17:04.208-06:00It'a Worth the Effort“MAKE EVERY EFFORT to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him.” 2 Pet. 3:14

“MAKE EVERY EFFORT to live in peace with all men… See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” Heb. 12:15

“Anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. Meanwhile, 51% called their church “judgmental.” Among other unfavorable views from those who quit their church, 41% said their church was “insincere.” Only 20% felt their church was “inspirational”; 30% said their church was “authentic”; and 36% said their church was “welcoming.”

The survey was conducted among 18- to 22-year-olds. Polls have shown increasing hostility and negativity toward Christianity, mainly from younger non-Christians – a majority of whom have a bad impression of Christianity, according to The Barna Group. But more reports are indicating that young adults not just outside of the Christian faith, but those in the pews are turned off by believers. Sam Rainer III says, “When we are known more for what we are against than what we are for, what other outcome can we expect?” Young born-again Christians were as likely as non-Christians (22% vs. 23%) to say Christianity in today’s society no longer looks like Jesus, according to David Kinnaman of The Barna Group. Despite the bad impressions expressed by those who dropped out of church, Rainer found that the churches of young people who did not drop out were viewed very favorably. A majority of the young people who did not quit described their church as “caring,” “welcoming,” “authentic” and “inspirational.” Only 19% of those who stayed said their church was “insincere” and only 24% felt it was “judgmental.”
(Christian Post 1/23/08)

Whats is the remedy? Myrna has been with Frontline Children rescue ministry for a year now. We have been busy the last few days. Thursday afternoon we went to the garbage dump it was very humbling experience for all of us. We were able to share God's love with the people in the middle of the garbage dump. Here are just a few pictures of some of the things we have been doing.

After we went to the garbage dump it was time to celebrate valentines day. We to a restaurant called Max's. We had chicken and rice. This is an annual event of Philippine Frontline ministry we had a few games and a night full of fun.

Friday it was time to share with the FCA kids and we had devotion with them we all got to share. The theme was being fair and it was a great morning. We then taught at the school and we all had a lot of fun.

It was then on to another life group, and then on to preach at the crusade. It went very well Sheryn sang and I preached. Many people came to the Lord, and we also prayed for many people as well.

It is so amazing we leave in one day. I will post one more time before we go on our 31 hour trek back to America. Thanks for all your prayers and support.

Pastor Barry

Wesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553983776418079391.post-57239493294101472892008-02-13T03:10:00.007-06:002008-02-13T04:40:34.415-06:00Crusade and Hospital ministryd

This is the blog that never ends. I have typed this blog three and now lets see if the fourth one will be a charm. Since yesterday I went to a life group in Benagale. It was a place that was very beautiful. It was near a river and to get to the house you had to walk down steps that were carved out of the dirt. I got to share to the group and encourage them. I tried to speak in Tagalog. We then had a snack of Philippine soup and then it was time to take a tricycle back to eat dinner and then head to the crusade.

We had to drive for over thirty minutes with rice fields and palm trees everywhere. There were a lot of people there. There were over 300 people there. The people were blessed and there were over 150 people who committed there life to Christ. I was able to share with many people and we were able to pray with many people as well. Then this morning we went to the houses again and followed up with as many people as we could.

Then this afternoon we went to pray with the sick at the hospital. I prayed with kids that had flu, asthma etc. Now I am eating a grilled cheese as you can tell I am roughing it.

Also Aaron is working on building a playground and I will post some more pictures as soon as I can. I am going to be going to a leadership development meeting here in 15 minutes and I will give you an update in the morning as well. I will try to continue to keep these posts longer sorry for the short posts earlier.

Have a great day!!!!!

Barry

Wesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553983776418079391.post-51723777780020562532008-02-11T22:12:00.000-06:002008-02-11T22:48:29.398-06:00Jail ministry this morning

We just finished sharing with over 200 inmates in the San Pablo City jail. It was a very great time of ministry. Early this morning we shared devotions at the FCA school. It was amazing talking to the prisioners and seeing what they are going through. The Frontline Ministry goes to this jail every week and it was a great time. Our team shared and I was able to preach it was a great time. Tomorrow I will have pictures of the crusade tonight. We are having a wonderful time and we are missing the cold.

Barry
Wesnoreply@blogger.com
